DANNY LYON - CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DEAD
LYON-CONVERSATIONS
Description
Conversations with the Dead provides an extraordinary photographic record of life inside six Texas prisons and the relationships Lyon built with the inmates. Revolutionary at the time of publication, it was one of the first photobooks to include ephemera.
Lyon spent 14 months in six of the most dangerous penitentiaries in Texas. “Ellis” being the most dangerous, we see photographs displaying the pure anguish of what it was and still is like within the Texas prison system. Through his time in the prison system photographing inmates, Lyon befriended some of the most dangerous men of that time. He was welcomed to their cells and we can see the sheer distress in every photo.
