Description

Dormant Season by photographer Erinn Springer is an intimate study of rural life shaped by season, memory, and a deep connection to place. Made in and around the Wisconsin landscape where Springer was raised, the photographs trace the quiet rhythms of winter and the periods of stillness that exist between cycles of growth and renewal.

Moving between portraiture, landscape, animals, and observations of everyday life, Springer approaches her surroundings with a sense of familiarity and tenderness. Snow-covered fields, domestic interiors, family, and fleeting encounters form a personal portrait of the American Midwest, where the apparent dormancy of the landscape conceals an ongoing sense of life and change.

Rooted in Springer's own relationship to home, Dormant Season considers ideas of belonging, inheritance, and our connection to the natural world. The resulting photographs are both autobiographical and observational, presenting rural life not as something fixed or nostalgic, but as a place continually shaped by time, family, and the changing seasons.
