PHILIP-LORCA DICORCIA - THOUSAND

Thousand brings together an expansive collection of Polaroid photographs by American photographer Philip-Lorca diCorcia, drawn from more than two decades of his practice. Originally made as test images in preparation for larger photographic works, the Polaroids form a parallel archive—one that reveals the experiments, observations, and incidental moments surrounding diCorcia’s meticulously constructed photographs.

Presented in dense succession, the images move freely between portraits, interiors, street scenes, landscapes, objects, and fragments of everyday life. Familiar subjects from diCorcia’s major bodies of work appear alongside anonymous figures and seemingly incidental observations, dissolving the distinction between preparation and finished image.

Taken together, Thousand offers a more immediate and intimate view of diCorcia’s practice. The accumulation of images becomes a visual record of time, travel, and photographic process, revealing the recurring gestures, environments, and ideas that have shaped his work while offering a broader meditation on the relationship between chance and intention in photography.
